When night comes everything changes, what seemed to be uninteresting suddenly turns into something wonderful thanks to the lack of sunlight. That, accompanied by the stars, makes us see the sky with new eyes; we can start to think about new compositions to shoot, including the Moon or the Milky Way in our framing, as well as the different planets and constellations we find in the night sky.

Astrophotography is an extremely technical branch of photography. There are several factors that affect the shots - how good or bad they’ll be. Since there’s little to no light, all camera automatisms won’t work as expected, and because of that we must understand very well our camera and how to use it in that kind of situations.

Objectives

My main goal is to teach how to take pictures at night in different light situations, be it with or without Moon (trying to avoid light pollution). This can be achieved with good planning and observation of the scene during the day and finally taking the shots at night.

Every participant will learn about astrophotography techniques, in which we avoid to use any camera automatism. They’ll also learn about the different options the night sky has to offer when looking for interesting compositions, and to do that they will learn a thing or two about astronomy.

The workshop is for people who

  • Have basic knowledge about photography (know how to use manual mode)
  • Have a camera with manual mode, manual focus and with a 30 second exposure function
  • Have a wide angle lens (the 18-55 kit lens works fine)
  • Have a tripod
  • Have a flashlight
